Mahalaxmi temple mumbai4/1/2024 The Governor of Mumbai, William Hornby decides to ensure that all the seven islands of Mumbai must be brought together so that people living in the low-lying areas don’t fall get affected by floods during the high tide. One of the legends behind building the temple goes all the way back to the late 18th century when Mumbai was a collection of seven islands. The was built in 1831 by Dhakji Dadaji who belonged to the Patharwe Prabhu community. The neighborhood gets it’s name from this 19th century temple. The temple is located less than a kilometre away from the city’s most famous dargah, the Haji Ali Dargah. The temple is dedicated to the three manifestations of Shakti, Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati and Mahakali. The Mahalakshmi Temple is one of the most revered temples in Mumbai.
